Practical discourse and the notion of democratic dialogue
Abstract
The notion of democratic dialogue made its entrance in Scandinavian workplacedevelopment in the 1980s. One reason was the need, recognised by the labour marketparties, for replacing negotiations with more evolutionary forms of communication in localdevelopment contexts. The article traces the emergence of the concept, its content and itsfate as a moving force in development processes. The movement towards dialogue has beensuccessful in the sense that dialogue has become common in workplace conversations. Thedevelopment also raises new challenges.
