Hvordan Fremmedspråkdagen kan bidra til å inspirere ungdom til å velge fremmedspråk i høyere utdanning
Abstract
Hvordan kan vi vekke ungdommens interesse for fremmedspråk og inspirere dem til å fortsette med språkstudier ved universitetet? I denne artikkelen presenterer jeg Fremmedspråkdagen, et initiativ fra Det humanistiske fakultet ved Universitetet i Oslo (UiO) som har som mål å motivere elever i videregående skole (ungdom 16-18 år) til å lære fremmedspråk i sine videre studier. På Fremmedspråkdagen åpner UiO dørene for elever fra videregående skoler i Oslo og omegn. De får møte universitetsstudenter og lære om språkstudier, utveksling, arbeidslivsrelevans, samt delta i korte forelesninger og muntlige språktimer. Evalueringer fra høsten 2024 viser at både elever og lærere var svært fornøyde med arrangementet. Artikkelen diskuterer hvordan Fremmedspråkdagen potensielt kan bidra til å fremme språkundervisning i norske skoler og øke antallet språkstudenter ved høyere utdanningsinstitusjoner.
